My favorite drawing of the night

Great pose. I'm glad that I actually captured this one as well (sorry for the immodesty) as I did.

Bits

I just enjoy drawing this model so much. She's very professional and takes some of the most interesting poses without getting into such a pose that it's impossible to draw. Sometimes just the turn of an ankle or the subtle angle of a hand can make all of the difference. The top drawing could have gone better but I needed more time to find the proper way of handling that pose. The bottom drawing is pretty self explanatory, the right knee just screamed "DRAW ME!".

Some more from the other night

The lower pose was rather awkward and didn't hold my interest but the top one seemed like it might turn into something nice. Had I used my time more wisely I could have developed the shadows with more confidence. But, as you can tell from the previous posts this week, I was focused on the head more than the figure. Alas, choices...

It's the hair

Sara chose to have her hair down this week and it really made a difference in the poses. Her tresses became another integral part of the figure and gave us all a new(ish) element to work with. I know I had fun with it.

A couple of small drawings

Each of these was only six or less inches in height. I kind of got into a little detail mode with the head study that carried over into some more of the drawings the rest of the evening. I was pretty happy with the night, for the most part.

Graceful pose

I really felt I got off on the right foot with this drawing. The pose was an extension of the last gesture and I kind of kept the gestural feel when I launched into it. The tilt of the shoulders and the thrust of the hip created that very small area of her torso on her right side. It was intriguing and I think that interest just made me more in tune with the drawing.

I think I finished strong. Lots of messy, random strokes that make for an interesting look.

Whew...

at least somewhat back to normal. I like both of these and I even like the fact that the figure is very unfinished.

Oh, well...

back to the drawing board. Sometimes it just doesn't work!

Last drawing of the evening

I really liked this one, mostly for the execution. I seem to abandon finesse at the end of the nights these days and just dive in. I have been quite pleased with the results. The heavy darks and grays that create the wonderful masses just make me happy. I only wish I had gotten to the face...

I'm torn on this one

I messed up the proportions on this one and really never recovered.

And now...

back to our regularly scheduled ... I think I've used that one a few too many times. Anyhow, I like the figure in this one and probably should have at least tried to indicate a face since I foolishly drew her head into this. The weight she puts onto her right arm and shoulder and the manner in which it drives through to the left hip creates a very interesting image.

Remember

Sometimes in our lives we forget what's important. Family. Friends. Country. Let's take the time to remember what was lost on this day in 2001. But more importantly, let's remember what was found.

Then it wasn't. Then it started to work again. I flip flop on whether I like this or not. I think I do. Or maybe I don't.

Hm, and yet another one I like

I think I was having, in my humble opinion, a good night. Granted the styles seem to swing wildly but I believe that is one of my "charming" traits.

Another one I really got into

I was really having a blast with this drawing. Standard pose but something really struck me and had me very jazzed about it. Forgot the face again. Sheesh, one day I'll figure out how to get it all together when I'm having fun with a sketch.

The first sketch of the night

A rather stylized face on this sketch. Sara has such great eyes that I sometimes try too hard to capture them. All in all, not a bad little drawing.

Last of the week's work

I am very happy with the first piece. I loved the pose, the shadows and the weight/mass that the model brought to it. I had a blast drawing it and would love to do a more finished drawing or even a painting of this particular sketch. That's it for last week's session, tomorrow I will start with new ones.

A couple for today

I really like drawing this model's face. She has the small nose that lends itself to the old style pin up look. I can almost "cartoon" her nose because of the small bridge. Normally I like this particular feature to be more prominent but with Sarah it works great.
