What coulda been

Boy, there was such great hope for this one as I was doing it. But I'm not all that thrilled with it, just something off about the proportions. I loved the pose and just didn't pull this one off.

Longer pose

Jumped to a ten much quicker this week and even had some fifteens and a twenty. I tend to slow down when I have more time instead of continuing with the pace I've already established. If I can train myself to keep going I can probably get back to where I was a few years ago and get some finished pieces out of these sessions.

Getting started

Usually takes a few poses to get going in the right direction. These are the only two five minute drawings of the night. The first one had some potential whereas with the second one I wish I had taken a different position in the room. Henry had a pretty good view and ended with a nice start to his drawing. Oh, well, can't win 'em all.

Last sketch of the evening

The figure works in a very basic way. Nothing outstanding in this one other than it looks like I was able to get the proportions right.

Gettin' the hang of it

The shoulder blades were intriguing to me in this pose and I believe I got a little carried away on the right scapula. Overall I think this is a fairly decent sketch, with a lot of angular strokes and some sharp lines.

Twosday

The reclined pose was a challenge and very difficult for the model. I only wish I had done a better job on it. The seated pose was okay and I was really intrigued by the left forearm resting on the knee. Should've just concentrated on that aspect.

Okay...

the second one ain't too bad. I did work on it during the break, something I don't often do. Still not what I would call a good drawing, but for the night it wasn't too wrong.

A couple more

Alright, I like the back pose. The top drawing is too basic but I felt I had to go simple to get my mind into the game. It was a good pose to do that. Very simple and straight forward. I allowed me to get back to what I like to do as far as technique with the second sketch.

Getting in the flow

As I said earlier, it takes me some time to get into the swing of things with a new model.

Gestures from a new model

It always takes me a bit to get into a flow with a new model. I think that there are a couple of decent sketches in here but as we get more sessions in with Tyson I think I'll get some better work done.

What can I say, meh... Let's hope tonight goes better.

Favorite of the night

Probably the only one I really liked from the evening. Switched paper and was taken by surprise by the tooth and finish. It was a bit of a battle, but I like the result.

An indication ...

of the kind of night I had. I was not in any way warmed up to start drawing and scrounging for paper sure didn't help the situation any. The result is readily apparent.

Miss K kept moving (since she didn't know I was drawing her I guess that's to be expected) but this is what I came up with anyhow.

Odd night

I got to drawing late due to a meeting so I missed the first half of the session. This is a sketch of one of the artists while we waited out the recess. Not a lot of work to post this week, sorry.

Take a knee.

I know this is an unusual and perhaps boring composition but I really enjoyed making this drawing. Just a knee and thigh and some other stuff but it was my favorite effort of the night.

So close

Would really have liked this one except for the hand. Went round and round but couldn't quite pull it off.

Switched paper

Ran out of newsprint and went to a 60 lb white. Changed the tooth of the paper and really affected how I drew. Kind of like this one, though.

The Contemplator

Eh... some things I like, some I don't. Overall this is just an okay drawing. Doesn't mean I didn't have fun doing it, I did. Just not the outcome I hoped for.

Gestures from last night

Not a bad night. Mr. S did his usual solid job and we had a nice turnout. Check back for the 5, 10 & one 15 min drawings.

A little looser

Ran out of time on the face but I like the free flowing nature of the figure work. Tonight we'll start the process all over again.

Simple shapes

I've never been a fan of the prone pose at the bottom here, but it's an okay sketch. I am rather fond of the top drawing, though. Simple, large forms with basic shading make this a nice little sketch. I guess because I was so happy with the first drawing of the evening I couldn't really enjoy the "lesser" efforts of the night. Too bad.

Okay...

these are too bad. However, I was judging everything by the first drawing and, quite frankly, they just weren't coming up to the evenings standards. Made it tough for me to get into the flow of things.
