Skipping the gestures

Let's just start with a quick sketch of Sara. I got involved in the hands and then didn't like how they turned out so the rest of the pose suffered.

just so happens to be the last one of the night. Must've sobered up by then.

Just an okay sketch but still one of the better ones of the evening. Again, I warn everyone against Angry Hank's before trying to draw. DON'T DRINK & DRAW!

My second favorite from Thursday

Wasn't in the best of form last week. Happens from time to time. Angry Hank's is not the best way to prepare for a session requiring hand/eye coordination.

Last Thursday's stuff... a bit late

Not my best night so I'm going to forgo the "less than decent" stuff and put some not so less than decent stuff.

but from a couple of weeks ago. I haven't photographed the images from last night (and am a little unsure how they're going to look. Didn't have my glasses ...) This is, of course, Amber.

Another study of Jeff's noggin

Always have fun drawing the sculptor's head. Lots of shapes and angles to latch onto and exploit for my own artistic gains.

Jeff's lean physique makes for a natural when it comes linear drawing.

This one just kind of came together for me. I was happy with it... still am.

Let's skip to the better stuff

This is my second favorite drawing of the evening. It reminds me of a Michelangelo knock off I had to do my first year of college.

An okay drawing session last night. I think there is only one sketch that I am happy with. I'll post that next week.

I'm very happy with the elegance of this pose and with my drawing of said pose. 'nuff said.

More Amber

Sometimes I just feel like doing a Klimt-like drawing when Amber models for us.

I really like this piece even though it's not finished. Perhaps that is one of the reasons that it appeals to me.

The gestures from last night

We are now meeting at MSU-Billings. For more information go to the Black Hand Blog (link at the side).
These are very obviously the gesture drawings of our model, Amber. As usual, she did a great job and we appreciate her coming from a faraway land to pose for us.

Loose and cartoony

This model has a great face to grab onto shapes, especially the mouth barrel with the large mustache and wonderful way the lower lip forms above and around the chin. I threw out the idea of doing a portrait treatment and just went with the exaggerated features. Not a caricature but not a serious study either.

Back to basics

A simple pose that always seems to make for a great drawing experience. This one stands out for me because of the way in which the model squeezed his back to make him look smaller than I knew he was. It makes me have to pay attention to what I see and not what I know.

Scribbles

Just a buncha lines and "voila"... it's still just a buncha lines.

Simple back study

Not much to say other than I think this was my most successful sketch of the evening.

Our first night at MSU-B

The local university, Montana State University-Billings, has allowed us to host The Black Hand Group at the school. After a little confused start it seems that it is a good start for us. Our model was the same model who sat for us when we opened at the Yellowstone Art Museum. I hope this all works well for us. Here is the first sketch of the night. They do get better.

Solid sketch

I had a blast drawing this one. I love how the shapes all mimic one another starting with the chin and moving to the mouth barrel, then the 'stache up to the nose and finally the forehead. Heck, even the gullet follows the round shape that is a theme with this sketch.
