Taking a break

No drawing last night and none next week.  I'll scour my unposted stuff and see if there is anything I'm not too ashamed to show.

Face Forward

Finally!  I have had a terrible time getting a good head study with Tyson and this one just worked.  Had a good time drawing it and it feels like a weight has been lifted.

Kinda blocky...

but I like it well enough.  The shapes jumped out at me and I thought of Bridgeman when I started drawing this one.  The end product isn't Bridgeman-like, but I think this sketch turned out okay, regardless.

A leg up

Okay, it's actually down but this is just another example of focusing on a relatively small area of the figure.  I like these little studies.

Closed torso

I started with the right leg, the knee to be exact, and worked from there.  As you can see from the erasure marks I didn't have the perspective correct but overall I thought this worked out alright.

Gestures of Tyson

I got back to the drawing board last night.  Here are the gestures from the evening.

Rough sketch

Very unfinished little drawing of Amber.  A bit of white chalk to push the highlights.  Coulda used a face, though.

Isolation

I do enjoy doing studies of small parts of the whole.  This was fun.

Old stuff

Due to an unavoidable instance I had to miss last night's session.  So I'll be posting sketches from other drawing sessions.  It looks like I had some gestures left over.  This was Tyson.

Last drawing of the evening

I usually get a little looser with the final sketch of any given night.  Maybe it's because I'm ready to head down to our own version of "Cheers" and relax with a couple of friends.  Anyhow, I often like the less disciplined drawings that come from that particular state of mind.

The contorted sculptor

Loose handling and sloppy shading make this kind of fun.  At least it was fun to draw.

Head case

Stern and dignified, the stoic Sir Jeff.  I like this one.

The drawing that coulda been

I started with the figure and not the head, then got caught up in the likeness only to find that I had made the noggin too small.  I went in and corrected it and then added the features... IN THE SAME PLACE AS BEFORE.  Sometimes one is just destined to fail.

Sometimes I just like to focus on a small area of the figure.  I think one of my last drawings of the night was similar to this.
