No model last night so I will be pulling out some of the drawings that I haven't posted from past sessions.

A little head study

Probably the best likeness of the night, yet not the best drawing.  I'll have more from Sara upcoming.  Let's see if I can be a bit more consistent.

Repose in terra cotta

I don't know why I don't do more with the red medium.  I really like how they turn out.

A bit abstract

Still, this was a nice pose despite the odd visual created by the right arm.  Heh, sometimes I just like leaving things alone.

End of the night

Again, the last drawing seems to come out very graphic and heavy handed.  Not sure what that is all about but it has become the norm recently.

New gesture drawings

I was using a different paper last night (for most of the drawings) and it really affected my style.  A little too slick to give me a good line.  Oh well, gotta try new things every once in awhile.

Last of the noggins

A return to terra cotta conté.  I haven't worked with that medium in a long while.  I thought this came out well enough.

Better

I was happy with this one.  Tyson had his head propped up by a hand causing some interesting edges and shapes to occur.  Fun to draw.

Pretty heavy handed drawing.  I always have trouble with Tyson's likeness.

I decided to focus solely on Tyson's noggin.  It is interesting to see how wide ranging the drawings are.  It was fun, though.

Final of the evening

Sometimes I get a bit loose on the last drawing of the night.  A bit heavy handed, even graphic.  I like it though.  Something alive about the image (despite the lack of a head...)

Sara draped

As in draped over the stand.  Would loved to have gone deeper into this drawing.  It started to come together at the end.

Old school

I kinda took this pose and stylized it.  Was going for the pinup look.  I'll have to keep this in mind for my upcoming project with my best friend.

RIP Joe Kubert

Williamson, Frazetta, Jones and now Kubert.  The great influences of my artistic life are all passing on to the next life to mix with the other greats such as Sargent, Mucha, Klimt, Fechin and others.  All I can say is that I am the better for having them as either mentors or influences.  My thoughts are with the Kubert family and all those that have been touched by Joe's teachings.

Structure

This whole drawing is about structure since it doesn't resemble Sara very much.  However, I had fun with the sketch and can live with its failure as an accurate representation.

Let's skip the usual gestures, shall we

This was the first drawing of the evening but, as usual, I didn't really get going until the second half of the night.  I have got to get over that. 

Deep shadows

Until the last 90 seconds this one was a lost cause.  I had to see what another artist was doing for me to kick it into gear and take the drawing seriously.  I think it may be my favorite of the night.

Barely

Our model had a tough time staying awake during this one.  It's been so hot here that I think he just got too relaxed.  It happens.

Lookin' a bit grumpy

Hey, it ain't easy sitting around while a bunch of artists treat you like a mannequin.  All the more reason to appreciate our models.

Sorrow

I was channeling one of my all time favorite drawings while sketching this.  It is a piece by Harvey Dunn, a little study that is hanging at a friend's house.  And no, I didn't even come close to the exquisite beauty of that drawing but that doesn't mean I wasn't trying.
