Just some gestures to start with

Thanks to Britain for posing for our group.  I think I got some good drawings out of the two hours.  We'll find out next week.

Unfinished

Just searching with the charcoal.  I liked how this was turning out until I did a complete disservice with the face.  Hence a hurried erasure job that left me no time to go back in.  Good thing this is all practice.

It's back to the files since we had no model last night.  Here's a set of gestures ( and a little goofy still life study) from, hmmm, I'm not sure.

Last sketch of the night

A final look at Sara from our latest drawing session.  Looks like this coming week we'll be looking at older work.

Resting her head

I liked the angle of her head on the pillow in this sketch.  Made me focus on just a portrait drawing rather than trying to get the entire figure down.

A bit of Fechin on my mind

Please don't think that I'm comparing, I just started thinking of Fechin's Balinese drawings as this one got close to finish.  Must be the eyes.

Gestures and such

Our reliable model Sara posed for us last night.  I believe I have started to get into a bit of a better frame of mind when drawing and so I have more consistency with the sketches.  I know I feel better about my recent efforts.

Looking ahead

Last of the evening.  I didn't go heavy handed on this one, must have been because I felt I was having a decent night of drawing.

Loose rendering

I enjoyed just throwing lines around on this one.  Just simple and loose.

Weighty issues

It appears our model has a lot on his mind.  I really enjoyed the "smooshed" facial features as he propped his head on this arm.  It may not be pretty but it was fun to draw.

Lots of movement

Seems to have a lot of energy going on in this one.  I had fun with it.

Well, a good night last night

What with my truck's battery dying, the frantic last minute stuff for Artwalk tonight and the sudden needs at work I really wasn't looking forward to drawing last night.  Maybe I should be stressed out all of the time.  I think this is the best session I've had with Tyson as the model.  I usually have trouble with my drawings when he is our model but this time things, for the most part, clicked.  Ya jus' cain't tell when it'll all work.

Another view with the same set of challenges.  I hope to have her back again as her pregnancy continues.

Seating for two

Seated pose creates a new dynamic.  Since the belly isn't fat but actually has a passenger it really makes things interesting.

Simple sketch to get into the mindset of drawing a model with child.  By the end of the session I think I had gotten a few good drawings.  I'll let y'all be the judge of that.  This was a five minute pose.
