Takin' a break

I'll be back in a few days.  Just need to recharge my batteries, dontchaknow.

Britain

I haven't had a chance to photograph last night's drawings so I'm posting an older image of Britain, our model last evening.

The Last of the Cowboys

This is a painting I went back in on and finished up this morning.  It was much more impressionistic before and far from successful.  I could work on it more but this will just have to serve as an exercise and a springboard to better work.

Relaxed

Just a reclining pose.  Not really pleased or disappointed.  Just a sketch.

Pensive

Pretty sure I've used that title more than a few times.  A basic head shot.  Nothin' to see here.  Move along...

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

In conjunction with the symbolic inauguration (as the formal event took place yesterday) this is a day to reflect on coming together for the common good, not only of our nation but of our communities and our families.

Promising start

At least I remembered my specs last night.  I seem to be in the big shapes frame of mind again these days.  Big strokes using the long sides of the charcoal or conté seem to be the the order of the day.  Oh well, go with the flow.

Hmph

A rather sketchy sketch.  I like the natural pose although looking back I think I should have lost a few more edges.  Alas, coulda shoulda woulda...blah blah blah.  At least I like what I did get onto paper.

Model in red

The only sketch of the evening in "color".  I do like the way most of the red drawings turn out.  I have no idea why I seem to do a more consistent job with this medium over charcoal.  Hmmm, I guess I want the finished product to be more... finished.  Who knows.

Last night from my studio

This drawing is going to an auction to benefit a local cause.  I'm a little late on this but it is done and I'm pretty happy with the finished sketch.  The title is "Blue" and the subject is my niece's horse named, appropriately, Blue.

Just lines

Simple lines.  It always amazes me that lines can translate what the human eye perceives.

Just waitin' for Friday

Mostly an arm & hand study.  I really enjoy rendering all of the musculature of the forearm and the relationship to the wrist and down into the hand.  I do need to spend some time understanding the human hand better, though.
I did have my glasses this time.  I think it made somewhat of a difference.

Simple yet appealing

I like the simple lines and the large strokes for the shading and the cast shadow.  I think I put in a couple extraneous lines at the end that hinder the design.  Alas, it's just a sketch.

More of the same

About the most finished piece of the evening.  Not saying much.

In a way, my favorite from the session

I like the ambiguity of this drawing.  It reminds me of an old Jeffrey Jones pen & ink w/ color wash drawing.  I'll try and dig that one up at some point.  Again, no glasses so no real chance at a good drawing.

Not a great night...

Forgot my "cheaters" and had a bit of trouble seeing the fine lines I needed to execute to give my drawings any kind of interest.  As a result, well, I'm just not too thrilled with what I got done.  I'll post the better of the drawings this week, but I'm not happy about it.

First old post of 2013

I always loved the movement in this quick sketch.  Just seemed to be a fun pose.  We'll get some new stuff in a couple of days.
