I really have to do more of these.  I'm very happy with how this one came out.  So much fun finishing off good poses.

More sketch to finish

Very pleased with this one.  The basic drawing was very accurate save for the shape of the jaw/jowel on her left side.  A simple fix.

What happens when there is a bit more time

I thought I'd show a before and after sketch.  I often want to finish off a drawing from the session but just don't do it.  Well, circumstances being a bit open, I had time to finish a few.  Here is one of them.

Gettin' started

I became a bit fixated on her left hip, making adjustments a couple of times.  It just struck me with how pointed it is, something I'm not sure I noticed in her previous poses.

One minute gestures of Paige

Later in the session we turned one of these into a longer pose.  I got a few decent sketches out of this session.  Thanks, Paige, another great job for us.

Fave of the night

Simple and soft treatment of the figure with a pretty nice balance of linear and shading.  Don't even want to take this any further, just like it as it is.

Empty spaces

A couple of confusing lost edges but I kinda like it that way. 

Pensive

I had a lot of fun with this one.  Breaking her features down to simple lines and shapes and leaving specifics behind was the goal.  More illustration than portraiture.

A pretty good night.  I'm not sure how well I did overall, but our model did a really great job... as usual.

Need to get faster again.  I must gain more confidence in making my marks so I can get further into the drawings.  Very frustrating to only get so far with these sketches.

I will be finishing the face on this one... maybe even the background.  Very nice pose.

I wouldn't normally post a sketch like this but I really liked the stream of consciousness line I was employing.

Last night...

I wasn't having a very successful night it seems.  Some stuff is okay but I really need to focus a bit more.  There was a mix up with the schedule (my fault) so we got started late and I opted out of gesture drawings. 

Favorite of the evening

One of those drawings that works as an abstract, unfinished piece.  A very nice way to end the session.

Interesting twist

I really liked this pose with the manner in which she twists her left arm and the torque that it has on the shoulder.  I got hung up on the back and the layers this twist produced.  Would love another shot at this one.

Too short a pose to really get into the beautiful back muscles here.  This was a wonderful pose.

And so another year begins.

Takin' a break

Looks like our dancer is either tired from her New Year's Eve celebration or she may be contemplating the resolutions she has made.  I always enjoy these poses as they give us a chance to draw the way the weight and various shapes react to the seated position.  With her relaxed posture providing a slump and the left hand holding up her head there was a lot to deal with in this sketch.

Looking forward to this year.  Hope to get better and take advantage of any and all opportunities to come.
