A little head study
Our newest model debuted last night. I could've drawn her face all night long. Wonderful shape to her head and some really great features. A fun night.

Contemplative Courage
Solid start to a good pose. Would that I had set this up for a long pose I would have gotten, maybe, a bit further along.

Fun head study
The torso got away from me but I was happy with how I handled her face. She had a great braid in her hair that reminded me of Andrew Wyeth's "Helga" series. I would like to revisit this drawing at some point and finish off the hair, ear and block the background in to really finish off the head portion of this sketch.

Competent sketch
I like the technique but not necessarily the finished (so to speak) piece. The use of the side of the charcoal and the placement of the shadows really works for me. Too bad I didn't work the face out on this, perhaps I would like it better.

Last one of the night
Didn't get nearly as far as I'd hoped with this one. But I like how the shading was coming along. I also like how her right arm disappears into the fabric and pillow.

First drawing of the session
Courage did a great job for us last night and we tried longer poses for the session. Funny, Dave pointed out that I don't seem to get as much done when the pose is longer. I think I get a bit more precious with my lines as I believe I will be getting a better piece with the extra time. Doesn't seem to work out that way.

A favorite pose
I love these kinds of poses. The depth created and the weight that is apparent with the legs on the table. The different angle for the head creates challenges and makes me think about what I am looking at. And the feet are fun, too.

Lost in the face
I really enjoy drawing Miss M's face. Her features really draw me in from an artist's pov. Got a bit further with her hair in this one.

Head and shoulders
Just a study of Miss M's head. Her hair is a challenge unto itself and would take the entire time we have to do it justice. Hence I very rarely render it as anything more than an outlined shape.

Simple back
I was enjoying the simple line quality that this pose offered, especially around her chin and mouth.

Forget the gestures
I loved the abstract nature of Miss M's left shoulder. All the folds of skin and layering of muscle.

Taking my time
This sketch has a lot of potential for a strong finish. I opted to take my time and see where it takes me. I'm looking forward to finishing her hair which is very wavy. It reminds me of the Pre-Raphaelites and the work of Barry W. Smith. I'll post this one when it is done.

Seated contemplation
Sorry for the bad reproduction. However, I did like how this was coming together and the subtlety of the line work. Very enjoyable.

Slap upside the head
My first sketch of the night was very tentative and I needed to shake it up. I took a look at a young artist's work as he drew next to me and just decided to take his heavy approach. I think it shook me up enough to work a bit better as the night wore on.

Sold
I sold this piece to one of my collectors Friday evening during our August ArtWalk. Was kind of sorry to see her go but that's the name of the game.

Thanks to Miss C
A big thank you to our model for pushing through and modeling for us. We really appreciate it. Here are the gestures from last night.
