Cast Shadows

Almost abstract, these shadows.  I was having fun finding the hard edges and the transitions as they crossed the figure.

Just a sketch

All about technique with this one.  Just having fun doodling away on a small section of the figure.

Lying down on the job

I had to move my easel for this one, something we don't do a lot of but I ended up in a dark corner behind a couple of students.  Still, this is a much better drawing than the one I would have done had I stayed in my spot.

Sittin' pretty

I love these poses.  Great shapes to work with.  The great bend to the back, the strong scapulas and the interplay of the muscles above the buttocks.  Lot's of fun to draw.

Getting a leg up

This was a "pretzel" pose with only 10 minutes to work with so I chose to just focus on the knee and go from there.

Gestures of Molly

Going with the gestures today since I didn't have time to take better pics of the rest of the sketches from last night.

Forearm

I was having a blast just overworking this little sketch.  Heck, I liked it so much I signed it.  I felt like I was rendering in the Renaissance.  I think some of it was the way the paper was taking the charcoal and conté.

Constructing the figure

I was really happy with the process of this piece.  I wish I had continued with the style for the whole session.

He always has such an intense look.  Must be the eyebrows...

Back to work

I shouldn't have put the black curtain into this.  I now would have to push the contrast much more, if I were so inclined to try and finish this one.  I don't think I am.

Some gestures from a long time model

Great turnout (16) with half of them being students.  Lot's of good energy in the room and, consequently, some pretty nice work was being done.  Here are some gestures from the night.

Hippy hippy shake

Just a fun exercise with some nice shapes.

Imperious pose

Nice image but incomplete.  Would love to finish this one but it ain't gonna happen.

A bit of a portrait

Her head moved a bit but I think I got somewhat of a likeness.  Probably should've moved her right eye up a bit.  That's what sketches are for though.  Make some mistakes yet get something you can work with down on paper.

Lot's of modeling

Far more rendered than it needed to be but that is the fun of drawing.  Finding interesting shapes and taking them to a level that makes you happy.

Skip the gestures

Still getting used to our newest model.  She has really gotten into the flow of our group and we've gotten some good stuff to draw.

Final pose of the evening

Nice and relaxed pose with that always odd looking disappearing leg.  Fun to draw but if it's not done right it just looks like it's disconnected.  I had a lot of trouble with her hand, it kept coming in too large.  I like some stuff in this one, not so much some other stuff.  Just a learning experience.

Reclined and at rest

I kinda like this sketch.  If only I had positioned it on the page better.  The rendering turned out pretty well.

Hey, a face

Well, that's different.  A relatively finished head.  Hmmmm, what could I have been thinking?  This was a bit of a challenge as the model shifted during the pose.  Not uncommon when trying to hold a twisted pose, especially a standing pose.

Languid

Simple pose to get Miss M started.  Some nice lines and shapes emerged out of this one.  This led to some fairly nice drawings from this session.

New model and the gestures from last night

Molly had a great debut as a first time model.  Here are the gestures from the evening.

Elegant pose

I was beginning to have fun with this one.  I especially like the vague treatment of her head and "face".  I would like to see where this one would've gone.

Foreshortened and unfinished

I liked where this was going... just not going to get there.
