Last post of 2015
This reminds me of one of my favorite artists, Kent Williams. Only because I realized I had severely messed up the pose and quickly knocked in the outline of the actual pose Lady J held for half an hour. I like this drawing and think it's a good one to finish out the year on.

Third time's a charm
Lady J loves this pose. I like it as well as it gives us a chance to really draw the figure elongated without being tethered to the ground. Also, the bend to the back is interesting. Here are the other two drawings from previous sessions of the same pose.
This is the first one and my favorite result. Knowing that she is going to use this pose repeatedly gives me the opportunity to concentrate on different aspects of the pose.
The second time I was faced with this pose. Compare it to the other two and you can see how I started to simplify the sketch and focus less on finish and more on construction.Monday, December 28, 2015
Long holiday blues
A fun study of Lady J. Lot's of bone to render with the tight musculature. Yeah, it may not be the most flattering study but it was not only a blast to draw it was educational. I really had to pay attention to the way the ribs not only wrapped around to the back but how they interacted with her latissimus dorsi.

Merry Christmas
I wish everyone who stops by a very Merry Christmas. Have a great holiday with those you love and enjoy some great art wherever you may find it.

Lady J
Sometimes I just like things left in an incomplete form. Frankly, more often than not that is what appeals to me. Probably why I love drawings so much more than paintings, seeing what the artist is thinking rather than, often, something so polished that the passion is hidden beneath a coat of immaculately applied paint. That's not to say I don't appreciate paintings, but I prefer the sketch.

Gestures of Lady J
Last session of 2015 and it was a good one. Here are the gesture drawings of Lady J. She did a terrific job, again. Very dynamic.

Back to posting
We had a bit of a fire at the office and I haven't had access to my files til now. Here is a nice little sketch of Lady D. Would like to finish this off and I don't think it would take much to get this where I would be happy with it.

Some gestures of Lady D
Got off to a rough and sluggish start last night. There are a couple of decent gestures here but I was pretty rusty last night.

Not much there
Just enough to get the point across. I liked how this was coming along but it must've been a short one for me to have only gotten this far.

Red conté
Such great shapes in this sketch. A bit too heavy with the line work along the hip and upper back. Still, this was a great pose.

A bit sketchy
Not a lot of confident lines thrown here. If I had finished more of the face this drawing would have benefitted greatly.

From over a year ago
It's that time of year where obligations keep me from consistently attending the group or the holidays interrupt the schedule (as they will in three weeks). So I have to wander into the archives and see some of the stuff I didn't really feel good about posting initially. This one ain't so bad, though.

Standing tall
An older piece that is a bit better than I remember. Still, a lot that could be done to make this one a worthwhile drawing.

Seated
That lost edge is very distracting yet when I was drawing yet it was one of the key aspects of this pose that I focused on. It appears to be a mistake on my part.

Her left foot
I had a lot of fun with this one. So many fun little shapes in her foot leading to larger shapes in her leg, lower torso and finally into her back. Would like to really finish out her foot but let the rest bleed out into obscurity.

Head study
Quick study of Lady J's head. I love the parallel lines of her neck and eyes and even her nose and forehead. It's a fun little sketch.

Simple and elegant
What a great pose. Such a very ordinary position yet our model's figure accentuated the wonderful lines created by the tension created by her right arm holding up her slight frame. Wish the rest of my work for the night was as interesting as this was.

Torso
Good sense of mass with this sketch. Don't think I really would need to finish this one at all. Says what it needs to.

Relaxed
Nice, simple pose. Would like to have finished this one, especially her foot and some more of the drapery. Of course, the face would've been nice as well.

Long pose
Surprised how fast 25 minutes go by. Did not get nearly as much done with this as I should have. Gettin' slow in my old age.

Gestures of Lady B
A couple of these gestures would've been very nice to finish as drawings. Lady B did a terrific job for us.

Conté sketch
I love working with conté crayon. Especially the red tones such as terra cotta. Really creates a nice image.

Model stride
Just getting in sync with the model again. Not sure I had a great (or even good) night but we'll see how they play out over the next few posts.

Basics
I like the heavy-ish outline used here to accentuate the basic shapes in this one. Still, I won't be leaving my charcoal pencils behind this week.
