With a twist

Lady J has such good musculature that it is a lot of fun to draw poses like this, angles and lines and substrata.  I could've spent a long time getting lost in this drawing, probably overworking it to the point of devastation.  Guess it was a good thing I didn't have more time.

Should've started lower on the page.

One minute gestures of Lady J

These sketches got me into a good frame of mind.  Wish I could've expanded on a couple of these.

Fave of the night

Early in the session, short pose yet the one I'm happiest with.  The pose was perfect and I love the energy in the technique.  Love the big shapes and the long lines.

Miss A takes a seat

Long pose for the evening.  I like some of the lost edges as they play against the heavier strokes.

Birdseye view

Just a perspective drawing.  I really didn't get as far with this one as I wanted.  I struggled with her face as I couldn't quite accept what I was seeing.  It is accurate, just not acceptable for me.  I like the pose pretty well and would like to try it again in the future.

The gestures of Miss A

A couple of our model's gesture poses would really have been spectacular to draw longer.

Study

I chose to focus on the model's midsection as the belly created a great shape with the rib cage.  The sweep on the other side of her body where the ribs draw the eye back to the belly.  Really loved working on this one.

Arch

Lot's of movement in this one.  Love the arch of the back and how the torso sweeps into her legs.

Just liked the head

I was very happy that I was able to get her mouth right.  Once that happened the rest of her features fell easily into place.  Lady J has a very specific type of mouth, I always think of Carly Simon, and if I don't get it right the whole drawing falls apart for me.

Elbows and knees

It's a lot of fun to disassociate myself from the model and see only abstract shapes.  Even though she sat still and formed a static shape there seems to be lots of movements in the leg, hip and her neck.  Fun pose to draw.

Profile

This is the most sensitive drawing I did last week.  I really am happy with this and the light touch that was employed.

Contortion

I picked out a drawing of Nicolai Fechin's for Lady B to try and this is the result.  I took a different angle for this and found out that I had made for myself one of the most challenging drawings.  The arm is what made for the difficulty since it was an unconventional position.  I was fairly panicked for most of the drawing but I think it has started coming together pretty well.

Drapery and charcoal

The loose treatment of the drapery and robe  function well for me in this sketch.  I was trying to keep the figure in the same vein but think maybe a tighter rendition of the model but leaving the rest in such an unfinished state would make this a more interesting image.

Not quite there

I have this sitting on my drawing board awaiting some finish work.  Probably won't finish off the lower leg but put a bit more into her foot.  May leave the hair alone but work out the fine points in her neck and jaw.  Just gonna let the drawing tell me what it wants me to do and see what happens.

Torso with shadows

This pose was inspired by a Fechin drawing.  Yeah, I know, it ain't anywhere near a NF sketch but I always find inspiration from his work.

Still a bit sketchy

A bit too light with the charcoal.  I should have started the session with more confidence and heavier hand, lightening up as the evening wears on rather than starting with such a light touch.
