Bit of leg

I had a ball drawing this even if I didn't get very far, considering it was the long pose for the night.  Loved the shadows shaping the bone and muscle of the calf.

Experiment

I started working this in a manner of an artist I follow on IG.  Barely got the eyes placed but I spent the majority of my time working through the problems the mouth presented.  It was fun but not really a quality finish.

It's that time of year again...

I'm in the middle of my annual blitzkrieg of Santa drawings.  This time they will be displayed and on sale at The Moss Mansion starting sometime in early November.  This one is a little 4x4 pencil sketch on toned paper with conté accents and white pastel.

Janelle unfinished

Was really liking where this drawing was going/taking me.  I decided not to rush it just to get the eyes in as I was quite happy with the mouth and how the shadows were relating.

Turns out this will probably be the last time we get to draw Lady JD (aka Janelle) as she is relocating.  I wish her well and hope that when she comes back to visit she can make some time for our little group.  Best of luck, Janelle.

Was really enjoying this little head study.  Need to go back in and get the eyes right.

Gestures of Tayla... again

Some quick one minute gestures.  Kinda all over the place which pretty much informed my whole night of drawing.

Tayla in grey

Charcaol on grey toned paper with white pastel highlights. I follow artist Daniel Maidman on Instagram and just felt like I should try using toned paper during a life drawing session.  A fun exercise that I need to do more often.  I work this way at home quite a lot but I'm not sure the last time I did this live.  Again, Tayla did a great job.

Statuesque

Tough pose to have a wooden staff across her shoulders for 15 minutes.  Well done, Tayla.  Loved the pose and I actually am fairly happy with the drawing.

Stretching out

Tayla seems to be taking it easy.  Worked well for us.  Great musculature that gave us some wonderful shapes to work with.  Lot's of fun.  Wish the pose lasted longer than 10 minutes, though.

Head study

I like this sketch.  I feel bad that I didn't capture her likeness but when I get some new glasses I hope to be feeling more comfortable drawing the model accurately.

Conté quickies

The first couple of sketches from last week.  Can't say enough about how great a job Lady JD does.  Makes things a whole lot easier.  We've gotten a couple of terrific models recently and it's really nice to work with them.

Lady JD is such a natural at modeling.  We had a great time and I hope everyone got a few good drawings from the session.

Tayla and the stick

Probably my favorite drawing of the last session.  Wish I had used better paper, perhaps a toned Canson.  Alas, never know if something is going to work out during a life class.

Tayla pulls a Gibson Girl

Love it when the model pulls her hair up, makes me go all Gibson Girl.  I should have drawn this in ink.  I still may.

She's so hip

Last pose of the evening.  I really hope to go back to this and really "flesh" it out.
