Concepcion

I was very pleased with the technique used with this one.  I have gotten many nice drawings and paintings with Cep as the model.

At least three years ago...

...probably more.  I love how this figure just moves in and out of the abstract background.  Would love to do more like this.

Let's post some old stuff

Maybe some greatest hits, such as they are, or some of the ones I haven't posted before.  Whatever strikes my fancy.  This is one I haven't posted.  Had a lot of potential just not enough time.

Merry Christmas to all

I'm taking a couple of days off to focus on family and friends.  Thank you to everyone who stops by to check out my chicken scratchings.  I really appreciate the kind words and the interest people from all over the world have in my works.  This would never have been possible before the 'net.  Merry Christmas to all and I'll see you in a couple of days.

No drawing for a couple of weeks so...

This is one I drew as a gift for the model.  She has done a lot of posing for me in the past so I thought I'd do one for her birthday tomorrow.  I had her recreate the Jeff Jones painting "Black Skirt" for me.  One of my all time favorite images.  I hope she likes this.

Takin' a break

Had some fun shapes and perspective on this.

Torso study

I like the shapes and some of the line work in this one.  Britain is fun to draw and we appreciate her willingness to pose for us.

Rest for the weary

A little head study.  I like the simple lines and peaceful look.

Chalk

Ran out of time with the face.  I got started but it wasn't working and then 'ding' the timer ended my quest for a finished drawing.  Too bad, I really like this one (even as it is).

Britain

Of course, I can't not say "Britain's Back".  It's like trying to keep my eyes open when I sneeze.

Favorite of the evening

I had a blast doing this head study.  So many little planes to explore and, as usual, losing so many edges.  Terra cotta seems to make everything more interesting.

More of The Sculptor

This was conté rather than chalk.  Easier to accomplish  the end result but I think I enjoyed the challenge of building up the drawing more as in yesterday's post.  Still, I like the finished piece.

Some chalk

I found a little terra cotta chalk in my mess of a art box.  Thought it came out pretty well.  Takes a bit more effort to get the results but I enjoyed the process.

Jeff to the rescue

Lost our scheduled model at the last moment so we turned to Jeff and he came through.  Thank you, sir.

Taking a rest

Final drawing of the night.  A new set tomorrow.

Favorite drawing of the night

I am very happy with this drawing.  This is the kind of image that I like best.

A little quick study

I kind of like the technique I used in this one.  Not a look I'd like to do a lot of but it sort of shakes things up and refocuses me.

Head Study

When Tyson is our model I tend to do a lot of head studies as he has some very interesting features to his face.  A lot of planes to work with and no obvious distracting "landmarks", such as prominent eyebrows or severe cheek bones.  A challenge I relish.

Let's skip the gestures

This is the first sketch of the evening.  I really wanted to start with basic shapes that evolved and made for strong shading.  I like some of the individual elements and it made for a good start to the night.

partial Britain

From the archives.  New stuff tonight.  Wow, a week off of drawing seems like forever.

Au revoir, Sara

At least until she models for us again.  This was my favorite sketch of the night.  I have a fondness for unfinished work.  It leaves a lot to the imagination of the viewer and forces the eyes to the parts that the artist (in this case, me) feels are most important.

Stretch

Classic pose.  I don't think I wasted it.

Continuing with Sara

From the Halloween session.  Sara in her kitty persona.

Taking a long weekend

I'll be back Monday.  Too... much... turkey!

Just lines

It's always fascinating what just a few lines can become.

Simple in five

I like the form and energy of this.  Something appeals to me about work that is just a matter of getting one's bearings.  This one almost breathes for me.

A little late today

Life got in the way of getting this post up at the normal time.

Back to work... for one week at least

T'is the season of breaking up the evenings.  With Thanksgiving next week we'll be out of the loop for a couple of weeks.  How inconvenient that this holiday falls on a Thursday.  Maybe we can get Congress to move it to a Monday (three day weekend, anyone?)  Anyhow, here are the gesture drawings from last night.

Forearm Shivver

Another simple study of an ordinary limb.  Sometimes that's all that's needed.

Never forget

A time to remember those that fought and are fighting for us and our freedoms.  Thank you to all the veterans and their families that also sacrificed.

Off to Art for the Ages

I'll be going into the vault for the next weeks images since I won't be able to draw tonight.  Sigh...  Here is the last one from the latest session.

Across her knee...

Just wanted to do a study in form and shadow.  It was fun.

Monday, November 5, 2012

On to some sketches

A little tentative with the charcoal to start with but I like the delicate nature of this drawing.  I seem to be approaching a lot of my other art in much the same manner.  Momentary diversion or evolution?  Time will tell.

Relaxed

Lot's of fun shapes to work with.  It makes for some intriguing compositional choices.  I think I get some pretty nice studies out of Britain.

Seated

The first sketch of the night and I think this set the tone for the rest of the evening.

Just some gestures to start with

Thanks to Britain for posing for our group.  I think I got some good drawings out of the two hours.  We'll find out next week.

Unfinished

Just searching with the charcoal.  I liked how this was turning out until I did a complete disservice with the face.  Hence a hurried erasure job that left me no time to go back in.  Good thing this is all practice.

More old stuff...

well, kinda old.  Another head study to take up space on the internet.
