Gestures from the shortened session

Looked like it would be a good night.  Oh, well... stuff happens.

It happens

Our model felt a bit queasy a bit of the way into the session so we let her go home and drew each other for a few until everyone just packed it in.  I'll share some of those sketches next week.  In the meantime, another drawing from a couple months back.

Catching some z's

Cally is just takin' a load off towards the end of the session.  Should I examine this drawing more in depth?  I like the foreshortening, although not too severe, and the weight her figure as it rests not only on the pillows but upon herself as well.  The turn of her head as it balances the angle of her shoulders and hips.  It's a great pose that I would love to give greater attention and time to.

Just a sketch

Another ten minute sketch.  Just a sketch.

Longer strokes of charcoal

I changed up my style a bit and kind of like the result.  A little bit more form it seems.

Still not in the game

Simple figure but but a bit more work on the head and face.  Been away too long, not getting far enough along in the time allotted.  It gets better.

Rusty... too much time away

Back to the drawings.  Took the first hour to get back into the swing.  Think I got a couple that aren't too bad.  I'll leave that up to your judgement.

All knees and elbow

The human form is an endless subject for inspiration.  I often wish I wanted to paint landscapes or still lifes but I'm only truly interested in the figure.  However, wildlife often falls into this category.  It must be musculature and bones and the way they sit in space.  Who knows?

From a couple of weeks ago

One of the last ones before my vacation.  Lots of stuff to draw, but not all of it drawn.  Story most often told on this blog.  Still, I like it.

Back to work

Had a little family shindig to attend.  Now I'm back to posting some of the older pieces I keep in reserve for when I'm not able to attend the session.  This is Cally, looking about as rested as I feel.  I started to render the face and ran out of time (as usual) but this pose really could have turned out to be quite special.  Too bad.

Taking a few days off

I'll be back in a couple days.  Need to recharge my batteries.

Cally incomplete

A bit of gray, a bit of white... but not a terribly interesting drawing.

Cally's back

I had to give this one up to the model... oh, well.  Can't keep 'em all.

Cally unfinished

If I had continued on this piece I would have fixed her head but I knew it was just a warmup so...

Update

The art sale for The Moss Mansion's "Party for Preservation" went well enough.  We sold about half of the artwork available.  Both of the pieces ( bobcat & griz) I previewed here sold so I am happy to have helped the cause.

A good start

Nice, simple shapes and no extraneous noodling with the charcoal give this a very solid feel.  I'm sure if I started working on the face and hair I would have felt compelled to "finish" this drawing.

The Griz defensive line

This is the companion piece to the Bobcat offensive line drawing I posted earlier.

Just tryin' to find my groove

Lot's of searching lines in this little head study.  I like the rounded shapes in her hand that mimic some of the shapes of her face, just giving the drawing a whimsical vibe.

Happy Labor Day

And yes, I am laboring today.  I'm keeping my latest batch of drawings another day since I will be missing a couple of sessions.  Here's hoping everyone gets their chores done early so that all can enjoy a bit of holiday today.
