New model...

Soon to be new mom.  Sprite got in touch with us and wanted to model as an expectant mother.  I love the challenge of seeing the human form in its many varied states and pregnancy offers some interesting challenges.  These drawings represent the first and last of the evening.  I haven't posted gestures in some time so I thought I'd pop those up as well as the final drawing of the night which, as of late, is a heavier handed sketch.  I try a more frantic and free flowing style to end my nights these days.  I like the movement in this one but not the finish.

Waitin' on a friend

You know, coming up with titles is more trying than doing the artwork.

Holdin' up a wall

I liked the movement in this pose, the way the energy seems to bounce back and forth between the left hip and the right arm.  Again, another sketch I would love to have had more time to work on.

Incomplete

Simple figure with larger strokes.  Not worried about finishing or anything any more complicated than getting the pose and gesture right.

A good night for all

I've taken a few days off from work and I went into last night's session relaxed and probably a bit more ready to draw.  I had a lot more fun with my work than I have recently.  This vacation concept may catch on...

The incomplete man

Just the bones of a drawing.  I think I would have enjoyed taking this to completion, fully rendered and all.  Alas, fifteen minutes isn't akin to 3 or 4 hours.

Seated but not...

Looks like our model is ready to leave even as we are barely getting started.  This set the tone for a bit of a linear themed evening.  Not all, mind you but some.

Back study

A simple drawing to start the week.  If I were to go in and put a dark background into this then the deep shadow spreading across his lower back would make more sense.  Luckily these are just sketches only to be seen on the net.  And really, who bothers with the world wide web?

Back to work

After a couple of weeks off it was back to the life drawing board for me.  We had four 15 minute poses this week so I was able to take a bit more time than usual.  This was the last pose of the night.

A little study

... with a bit of instruction thrown in.

Back to Britain

It's been awhile since I posted Britain images.  I like this one.

More from the stack o' sketches

I was unable to attend last night's session so I am still plundering the unposted pile of drawings.  A fairly recent image of Sara.

Lookin' bored

The model seemed less than interested.  Of course, that wasn't the case.  The weight of his head against his hand may have made for an odd looking sketch but it was interesting to draw.

More from the files

An older one of Amber.  If you're reading this, make some time so we can get some new drawings of you.

Let's see what's in the "unused" pile o' sketches

I worked this one way too much.  The ear was in the wrong spot, the nose was too low, the eye wasn't quite right and the shape of the head wasn't what I was seeing.  Sheesh, if it weren't for the fun modeling of the skull I would have given up on this.  It was, however, a learning moment and you can't ask for much more than that.
