Sketchy but interesting

I really like how this came out.  Very loose, very impressionistic.  Yet recognizable.  This was fun.

Kinda sketchy

I was just trying to find something to latch onto and I guess it was the hard shadow along the left side of the torso.  Nothing to really want to go back and finish though.

Miss S returns to the fold

and here are her gesture poses.

It felt as though this model hadn't been away for a couple of years or more.  She's fun to draw and has been doing this long enough that we never worry how things'll work out up on the stand.

Dark study

Always have fun drawing Mr. J's noggin.  Really enjoy the heavy blacks.

Final sketch of the night

Lotsa stuff goin' on here.  Just not sure it makes sense.  I started to get into the rendering of the right hand, making it more mass than detail.  I kinda like that.

Another heavy handed sketch

A theme for the evening.  I like aspects of this style but it ends up being too impressionist for me and less about the beautiful details.

Dark chunk o' charcoal

I used a rather heavy black piece of charcoal and stuck with it for most of the drawings.  Interesting but not something I'm real comfortable with.

A different approach to gestures

I was in an experimental mood last night so I played with a couple of different ways to capture the gesture.  Different for me.  I pulled that into the rest of the drawings for the remainder of the night.

Split

I was having some fun with this one, particularly how the light seemed to split the torso right down the middle.  Looks like a bad tan.  However, it was a blast to observe and draw.  There are definitely problems with this one but it felt like it was beginning to breathe so I say this was my favorite of the evening.

Missing pieces

I really just wanted to focus on her eyes, nose and mouth but let the hair get the better of me.  Oh well.

Abstract back

I was intrigued by the musculature of this short pose and really wanted to capture the tension.  As the drawing progressed I found I liked the design aspect of this as much as the actual rendering and went out of my way to keep it fairly graphic yet quite representational.  Would love to have gotten a bit more of the back of her head done but I am still quite happy with this sketch.

Okay, here are the gestures

And only one page at that.  Lady B does such a great job with the gestures that I often wonder what an entire session of gestures would be like.

No gestures yet

I haven't had access to a camera to take last nights photos so I'll post a little head study from last week.  Have a great weekend.

Lots to like

Pretty happy with the line quality and the minimal shading and the general feel of the shapes and weight of this one.  It was the last pose of the night and it was a good one to end on.

Unfinished

I tried to be attentive to the line quality in this one.  Made for a slower study but more delicate finish.

Hand on Thigh

Just some academic shading and linework.  Competent but not anything special.

Favorite of the session

Just a little head study but it was the one I liked best.  Was really playing with the shapes rather than lines and staying much more impressionistic (such as it is) than usual.

From the beginning of the session

Love the weight of this image, how the leg feels like it has mass.

Takin' a break

I really like drawing this angle.  It's very interesting and a different way of piecing the figure together.

Lady O poses some mo

Just gettin' back into the rhythm of drawing after some time off.
