Goodbye 2022

We come to the end of yet another year.  What better way than to showcase Ladies E & S and a portrait of Miss V.  Looking forward to what 2023 holds in store for our little art community.  Have a safe and fun New Year's Eve.

More of my faves

All of these seem to be of Miss P.  I've been pretty lucky with having access to some pretty great models.

Last drawing from life of 2022

With her looking away it seems as if she has turned her back on this year and is looking forward to better days in the new year to come.

Mostly a torso study

It may not look like it but I really concentrated on the back edge and ribs.  I tried to be very subtle and I may have been too subtle.  Still, this is a drawing that is simply a learning experience.

A study to, well, study...

Just a basic study to develop the mass of her figure.  This would benefit, not only from a lot more work, but completing more of the fabric to give the figure proper texture.

That thigh

I love it when a pose presents a large mass like her left thigh, especially as it recedes in perspective.  Lots of fun to render with a few lines and some gentle shading.

Movement... literally

Or figuratively, since we are drawing the female form.  Either way, I was really excited to delve into this drawing but, as you can see, she moved enough to throw off the back and all of the shadows.  I'm not faulting her since I'd never be able to hold any pose for ten minutes, just addressing the pitfalls of twisted poses, especially standing poses.  Still, I like the sketch well enough.

Simple shapes and a hard shadow

This is one of those drawings that just felt right left in the simple forms and large shapes.  The shadow is a bit disconcerting but if it went any further it would have made a bit more visual sense.

Five minutes

Just getting a feel for the medium with this five minute sketch.

The last gestures of Lady S for 2022

A great way to wind down 2022.   A full house and a great modeling session with Lady S.  Here are her gestures as I saw them.  Not really looking forward to missing two weeks of drawing from the live model but I hope to come back focused and having accomplished other art projects with the down time.

Lost opportunity...

I would love to have spent more than ten minutes on this.  The shadows were gorgeous from my POV and her spine made such an interesting point of interest.  This would have been a really beautiful drawing had I gotten another ten or twenty minutes to build layers of shadow.  Coulda, woulda, shoulda...  story of my life.

Head cast

Too much information for just 45 minutes.  I spent too much time getting the dimensions of the sculpt correct.  Not my best effort of the evening.

Rough study

I really didn't get very far on this one.  Not sure why but I seemed to focus on her left arm.  I really would like to finish this one at some point but I'm not sure if I got far enough to really polish it up adequately.

Seated

Fun with conté.  Just interested in the shadows with this one.  A light touch as I tried to get my bearings.

One minute (or so) gesture sketches of Lady S

A small group (tis the season, after all) for another solid outing with Lady S.  Here are the gestures, which I really like, from the start of the session.

Five

First five minute drawing of the night turned out to be my favorite.  Kinda chunky lines and shading creates some nice mass and shapes.

Toe

A pretty straight forward profile drawing that has one small point of interest.  I paid a lot of attention to her shadowed ribs and the flow from them to her belly and how the hip cuts.  Yet what draws my eye is her big toe peeking out from under her leg.  If I had actually gotten her head drawn perhaps the composition would have balanced out.

Gestures of Lady E

We continue our journey with Erin during her pregnancy.  Only in the first trimester so there is a long road to travel and document.

Well, let's see what I can dig up...

I like where this one was headed.  Simple shapes and a nice bit of static movement.  Too bad I didn't plan a bit better, maybe her left knee could have been saved.

Something different

I'm doing a few things for a friend that have to do with my obsession with the pulp character The Shadow.  This is a little charcoal of Ming Dwan, the alter ego of Myra Reldon.  Myra was an agent of The Shadow who could infiltrate Chinatown in disguise as Ming Dwan.  Just some fun...

Lady E strikes the pose for the third time

Lovely pose with such a strong line of action.  An absolute joy to draw for 45 minutes.  Wonderful.

Try, try again

The head study wasn't working out so I turned the page around and did a little knee study.  Much happier.

Languid

Love the movement of this pose.  Lady E just takes poses that seem to flow.

Second version of this pose

Lady E took this pose as one of her gestures.  The group liked it so much we went with a five minute version.  This is also the pose that we ended the night on but I'll post that later.

Gestures of Lady E

Lady E has returned and this time we will get to track her pregnancy from first showing up through the final month (I hope).  Some gestures of E and her baby bump.
