Gestures of M

Well, it's been a few weeks but the wait was worth it.  We had a new model make his debut and I think it was a pretty productive session.  The gestures were very dynamic and it started the evening off in an energetic way.

Favorite from the night

Favorite?  Sure.  But that ain't sayin' much.  I like the knee (natch) and the turn of the body along with the tension of her arms, especially the top of the right shoulder.

The long pose

This one I truly wasted.  Not sure where my brain was but I just didn't lay out the basics well enough to start with this one.  Too bad, a lot of potential in this pose.  At least I'm happy with the left leg...

Just sittin' 'round

I was not in the most well lit position for this one.  I always hope that I'll get a more dramatically lit back but, alas, twas not to be.

Da Thinkah

A study in shapes.  I like the mass that I captured in this simple little sketch.

Gesture page from Thursday

One of these days I'm gonna do a half hour gesture sessions where the model just breaks into a new pose as they feel like.  I think it would be a lot of fun to see what comes of that exercise.

Favorite of the session

A focused study of the shadows as they move down her torso.  A joy to draw and one I'm happy with.

The long pose

This was fun and frustrating all at once.  I had really strong shadows with the drapery and on her right arm.  But the rest was fairly blown out and I was grasping to make forms.  Still, I think I succeeded in making it feel as if she is laying down and propped up and that the mass is there.

Form and shadow

This was going to be a nice little back study but I got too precious with the smudging and it just took too long to get this one going.  I also got a bit lost in her collarbone.

Standing with a stick

But I didn't draw the stick.  For a longer pose the stick makes for a fun prop to draw and relate to the figure.  However, for quicker poses it just takes time away from studying the relationships the muscles and masses have to each other.  So... no stick today!

A page of gestures

We were running a bit behind so we limited the gestures to five poses.
