Fave of the session

Again, just fell in love with the cast shadow and rim lighting.  So much fun.

Look away

Last sketch for the night.  Just didn't hit the right notes for me.

Comfy & cozy

Well, it looks as though Lady L was taking it pretty easy in this one.  As to my effort... all over the place with very little tying it all together.

Some leg

A bit rough and very ham-handed.  I really liked the pose but did not have any success with it.  Oh, well.

Cast shadows

I could've worked on this one for an hour, maybe more.  I was so intrigued with the strong highlight on her back and arm and the intense cast shadow that I just wanted to keep pushing the contrast further and further.  This was the most fun for me out of the session.

Final sketch of the night

I was having fun with the cast shadows for a lot of the night.  This was a blast to work on.  A little more time to get the face in and her right hand would've been nice, however.

Arm study

The angle and perspective of the figure was really fun for this one.

RIP Bernie Wrightson

Another member of the mythical "Studio" has left us.  He was very ill at the end of his life and I can't help but feel relief that his suffering has ended.  He left us with some of the most glorious inked images ever done.  Of course, Frankenstein was his masterpiece but there was no shortage of his brilliant work, mostly in the comic book realm.  Along with his vast amount of horror output he also did some humorous work as well as inking my favorite tale of The Shadow, "The Kingdom of The Cobra".  Along with Al Williamson and Jeff Jones, Bernie influenced my inking to probably the greatest degree.  Goodbye, Bernie.  Say hi to Jeff for all of us.

A little study

I like the simple shape and shading of the belly on this one.

Back to work

Always good to get back to drawing the figure.  Thanks to Lady L for coming back.  I know I had a good evening and I think the rest of the group did as well.

Heavy handed

But I like it.  Have no idea how long this pose was, guessing it was a shorter one, but I especially like the legs and feet in this sketch.

Comfy

Maybe even cozy.  A nice, natural pose.

Madame E listens to her music

Really only got the basics down on this one.  Would like to really work the shadows and add to the drapery.

Conté sketch

More archival images from earlier this young year.

No session last night...

...so we will grab some of the stuff I haven't posted from the earlier sessions this year.

Gettin' the cold shoulder?

Nah, just a fun angle to draw.  Love the turn of her head and the way her hair plays against the drapery.

Weekend drawing

This is the "in progress" record of my Buffalo charcoal on canvas.  Forgot to take a pic of the initial block in sketch, though.

Gestures from our third session with Madame E

We had a small group last night but it seems we are all getting more comfortable with our model.  Madame E does a terrific job and we look forward to working with her more.

Fave of the night

I am very happy with this sketch.  It was a longer pose but I like the manner in which I employed the charcoal.  A very fun piece to do and a nice way to end the evening.

Finally!

A finished face.  Not often recently have I been able to do that.
