Dang it

I just couldn't quite get the right arm correct.  Measuring over and over told me it was right but it just doesn't look correct.  Too bad, this has a lot of good stuff going on.

Can it get much simpler?

Just warming up.  This is barely more than a gesture drawing.

Lady L just chillin'

Not sure I had a particularly successful evening of drawing but that's just the way the charcoal crumbles.  This was a 10 minute pose that I kind of attacked with a lack of urgency.  Didn't get much done on it.

Work in Progress

The photo is from my tablet so it ain't as clean as I like but I thought I'd risk embarrassment and throw this onto the blog. Should've shot it in its frame...

Head study

My favorite sketch of the night.  Light touch and focused interest.

Two fer one

The first couple of sketches... just a bit of searching for inspiration.

The gestures of the sculptor

Broad strokes to start the session.  I really focused on the model's head for a lot of the evening.  Had a lot of fun.

Last drawing of the night

I really enjoyed the perspective of this pose.  Her hand blocking her mid torso created an admittedly odd sense that she's missing something but I went ahead anyhow and focused on finishing her head and shoulder. I'm pretty happy with this one.

Just a start

A fun little exercise in the "less is more" category.  Okay, I just ran out of time.

A foot and a half

A pretty blocky handling of the figure here.  But I like that, big strokes for the shadows and lost edges make this a more interesting drawing than it otherwise would have been.

Languid

Our model is just chillin', it seems.  I like how the figure became elongated and relaxed, it presented a slightly different view of how all the shapes and key points relate to each other.

Lady L is back

Yeah, I've used that pun before but I think I'm okay with reruns.  Very similar to a pose she took a couple of weeks ago, however I can get behind that.  I would like to have a bit more control over the lighting and get a higher contrast to the figure, though.

Heavy shading

I got a kick out of pushing the shadows in this one.  Lots of great shapes to work with here.  Shawna sure gives the artists a lot to draw.

Great knees

I seemed to have been captivated by her legs on a couple of sketches.  Such great shapes and the knees just screamed "Draw me!!!"  Therefor the rest of the sketch suffered.  Oh, well, it was a lot of fun.

Just some marks

Sometimes I just get mesmerized by the lines being drawn and just seeing what comes out of the paper.  Marks on paper... that's all it is.  And somehow we make those marks turn into an image.  Pretty cool the way our brains work.

Channeling my inner Zorn

Well, at least this kind of reminds me of some of Anders Zorn's imagery.

Shawna's gesture poses

I could probably spend the whole two hour session just drawing her in gesture poses.

Kinda Vargas

A new artist, Echo, posed Lady L and I have to say it was a fun half hour.  Would love to get into the hair a bit more.  Still, I like how this one came out.

A bit of drapery

Simple shapes with most of the interest focused on her hair.

Getting used to the model

Whenever we get a new model or one who we haven't seen in some time it takes me a bit of fumbling around until I'm comfortable with the challenges that the new figure offers.  I know I should be able to look at the model as a collection of familiar shapes but I try to keep the unique nature of whomever is standing in front of me.
