Tayla in conté

Been awhile since I broke out the conté.  Did a few of her with this medium.  I've always been fond of conté, it just feels easy to use.

Great debut for Tayla

We had another newbie (at least to modeling for life drawing) and she knocked it outta the park.  Here are the gestures from last night.

Window to the soul

From a couple of weeks ago.  The Sculptor has always been a wonderful subject to interpret.

Smoke Under the Moon

One of my pieces for an upcoming show.  I'm pretty happy with this.  Charcoal on toned paper 4.5 x 10.

5 minutes

Lots of quick strokes.  I like this one for its simplicity.

Gestures of The Sculptor

Jeff did his usual professional job.  We are lucky that he's been with this group since it's inception.

Something a bit different

This week marks the 53rd anniversary of Star Trek's premier.  This sketch is based on our favorite Vulcan from the very first episode "The Cage", which finally made it to the small screen in the form of the two part episode "The Menagerie".  I had fun with this one and I hope to do some more like it.  Maybe the whole crew of the Enterprise and some other celebrity types.  I like the "Peak" style that I hit upon.  Couldn't help but feel like I was channeling the movie posters of the first 6 films.

John WIP

...er, Wick that is.

Late night doodle from my sketchbook.  Fun (so far) and would like to explore this a bit more.

From a seated perspective

Got distracted by the knees again.  Drawing knees and wrists is like playing with a landscape, just so much going on.  Fun.

Soft head study

Not sure this is very successful but I had a lot of fun working this out with this kind of technique.
