A bit of movement

The pose had a twist that our model couldn't quite hold so the upper part of the drawing doesn't quite match the lower portion of the torso.  I decided to leave it alone and concentrate on just the details.  It happens sometimes but that's just the way it goes.

Rear View Mirror

The curve of the figure is mirrored by the drapery making for a pleasing composition.  I struggled with whether to shade this drawing since the linear aspect of this sketch was so satisfying.  However the clock said I had too much time left to just stop and not enough time to do a decent second drawing of this pose so...

A Pair of Pen & Inks

While my wife and I were at Market for our business I saw these frames with small prints inside.  I felt like I could do some pen & ink drawings for these and make a very different look for our store.  Here are the first two.  I think I'll do some wildlife for the next two.  If they seem to be popular enough I'll get some more of these frames and kick out some more.  I've always been partial to ink drawings and this is a good excuse to do some little pieces.

Finally

At last, a solid drawing of Ashley.  Took most of three session but I finally got a drawing I'm happy with.  I hope I can build off of this.

Nodding off

Well, I hope she wasn't nodding off.  Eh, it's an alright sketch.

Head study

Simple strokes got me closer to understanding the generalities of Ashley's face.  Made for a better night once I finally got over this hurdle.

Languid

Started to get the feel for Ashley's facial structure and felt much more at ease this session than the previous two. 

The gestures from an evening with Ashley

I'm starting to get used to Ashley and am getting away from the specifics and seeing the generalities of her features.  Later this week I'll post my favorite drawing of Ashely that I've done.  Took three sessions but I finally got one that I'm pretty happy with.

of the night, that is.  Probably the best drawing of the session, which usually doesn't happen for me.  However, it is a back shot, how difficult could it have been?!

Measure twice... draw once

I measured and re-measured the hand in this one and it is accurate.  Just a trick of perspective.  It was fun to sketch this one even though I didn't get to the face.  Just the way it goes.

False Start

Wasn't happy with the first try and switched from terra cotta to black conte.  Very basic to get the evening started but I like the planes and forms.

Ashley Profile

Rather a stylized rendering of Ashley will end our two week run with our newest model.  I really look forward to having her sit more for us and getting some better drawings done.

A little white chalk really sparks up some drawings.

and the leg attached to said foot.  I've always been partial to studies like these.  They are very focused and, at least to me, interesting.  I had fun drawing this one.

More time...

just some more time to do this sketch justice.  I'm starting to get in the groove with our newest model, Ashley.  I need to get back to the sensitive linework of some of my earlier stuff.  She's perfect for that style.
