Nice start

I was really, I mean really, enjoying this one.  To the point I wasn't even tempted to rush certain aspects just to make it look a bit more finished.  This is another of the many that I would love to finish.

Back to the figure

Big, swoopy lines and thick strokes of charcoal... not the best sketch but it was refreshing to draw that way.

My contribution

MSU-B has an annual Food & Wine Festival and I have been donating a piece for the past few years.  This is "The Elder",  a charcoal drawing measuring 7 x 9.5.

Take a knee

No drawing last week so I'm digging through the archives for some stuff.  Nice little concentrated study that could have benefitted from finishing the drapery.  Or maybe not.

Buffalo Blanket

This will be in our gallery in time for ArtWalk.  Oil, 41x21.  Time to move on to something else.

My favorite of the night

I really enjoyed throwing myself into rendering the model's arm.  Okay, I also had fun with her hair.

Last and longest of the night

I like the challenges of these odd poses.  The foreshortening from the head through the torso and then the legs looking much longer.  It kinda messes with my brain forcing me to really pay attention.  Fun.

Let's get the conté out of the way.  I decided not to focus on the likeness but rather the forms.  Kinda liked the freedom.

Long & lean

I had some fun with the shading of this one.

Long pose

Just not a satisfactory use of that time.  Again, too much time spent on getting her likeness and not enough time exploring the pose.

Long torso

Simple shapes and long lines.  I would like to have explored her left hand with the pinky finger extended.  Not enough time.

A headband and updo

I usually struggle with a new model as I always try to get the likeness rather than the general sense of the figure up on the stand.  I may be better served to reverse that process, at least I would be less frustrated.

Welcome to Miss D

An all new model debuted with us last night.  With no experience under her belt she sure caught on quick and gave our small group some great work.  The last gesture would've made a really great long pose.  Maybe another time...
