One minutes sketches

Saying good-bye to Lady B for a few months.  Summer break always causes us some stress about where we'll be getting our models as well as a consistent attendance.  Thanks to Lady B and all of our models for helping us with keeping our skills up.

Profile

Best angle for me to draw Lady B's face.  I really enjoy the simple lines and her features.  A lot of fun to draw.

Isolated focus

Just a little drawing of Lady B's face.  I just got lost in the details and didn't explore any more than the features of the face.

Long tresses

I really like the simplicity of this sketch.  The lost edges focus the eye on her long hair cascading down her back.  I may go back and finish of the flowing tresses to a better degree.

First five

and maybe my favorite of the night.  It really doesn't say much when you do your best work at the start of the session and devolve from there.  I just love the shapes and how they relate and interact within the whole figure.  This was fun to draw and one I wish I had much more time to work with.

Gestures of Lady B

Decided to get all of them on a single page.  Makes them less precious that way and keep my mind focused on just letting my eyes and hand get onto the same wavelength.  It wasn't as good a night for me as last week but still, a couple came out alright.

So stylized

Just have so much fun drawing Lady B's head and hair.  She has the profile of Madame X (John Singer Sargent's masterpiece) and I'm always inspired to capture the essence of that painting's grace when I draw Lady B's profile.  Then I slip into Barry Windsor Smith mode and go all linear on her hair.  Back in the day this model would've been great to illustrate in pen and ink a la a Gibson Girl.

Great Profile

Lady B has such a great profile that I almost want to just draw her face...

and a few more from the night.  Really like the stylized hair and simple, linear treatment of the figure.  (don't mind the image coming through from behind.  Very thin paper I was working on)

Gestures of Lady B

Lady B gave us another great session and I think I got some pretty decent sketches out of it.  Not these but the ones I'll post next week.

Lines and shadows

Spent a lot of the time making sure the proportions were right and trying to get some of the masses delineated with some shading.  More time, please.

A little study in line and shading.  I love using the lost edges technique.

Trying to become a bit more comfortable with the grey paper and white chalk.  I like his eye and the hair.  The rest could use some work.

Rather than let the clock rule me I chose to get as far as I could as carefully as I could.  I like how this started out.

Folded

Our model knelt down and bowed flat.  Wasn't sure what I was going to do with this short pose but I like what I focused on and wish the rest of my night went the same way.  But it didn't.

Miss A gave us some very nice work.  I, however, just wasn't on my game for the most part.
