Back to the old stuff
Our model had an traffic incident last night and thus we had no session. Here's an old head study to fill the gap of anything new.

Channeling my inner fashion illustrator
I recently ran across a fabulous fashion illustrator named René Gruau and I think some of his sensibility rubbed off on me with this sketch.

Old painting
Long suffering piece that I finally finished 5 or 6 years ago. Decided to detail the dress and change the background and lo & behold it popped. Well, popped enough for someone to buy. I hope she is happy in her home.

Equine sketches
Blue, at the top, is my niece's horse and was fun to draw. The other was just something to do that turned out alright.

Love the face
I truly miss this model. Alas, nothing is forever. I really like the likeness I captured here. About 3 years ago.

Another week of old stuff
Really old. Cep was a great friend who let me sketch her from time to time. This was always a favorite of mine.

Conté
I don't know why conté seems to make the drawing easier. I can't push it around like charcoal but it seems to go to the right spot and throw the right line more often than any other medium I use. Odd.

Odd perspective
I normally like this angle, a challenge that is usually fun for me. This one just didn't end up working well. The left shoulder didn't give me enough to work with and makes the head sit, visually, wrong. Overall I just wasn't happy with this one.

Back to new stuff... finally
A bit rusty but it was so much fun to get back to work. Small group but not a bad way to get 2018 off the ground. Thanks to Sara for modeling.

Hmmm
Without rendering the cloth beside her she comes in too skinny and her head is too large. Sometimes just a couple of lines can make a difference.
