She left her glasses on for the gesture session.  Added a little dimension, I suppose.

Big strokes and shapes

I like this one because of the simplicity of the shapes and lines.  And maybe because I was channeling a bit of Steve Huston with the heavy outlines.

Lost in thought

This was a very difficult angle.  Not sure if it was my iffy eyesight or just the pose but I had so much trouble convincing myself of what I was sketching.

Tuesday

Just a sketch.  Of a girl.  With her arms.

Well, she has no arms at this point.  Was really liking the way the light and darks were playing across her figure.

Last night's quick studies

Otherwise known as gesture drawings. 

A box

This one was coming along.  I really like the curve of the torso and the weight of her head upon her hand.  Not the best sketch of the night but my favorite.

A study in shadows

Probably the best sketch of the night, but not my favorite.  Had fun with the cast shadows, though.

Strands

A so so head study.  I think I was having too much fun to pay attention to accuracy.  Happens sometimes.

Tilt to her head

Just trying to get back into the flow of things.  Enjoyed working on her face but just blocked in the upper torso at the last second and it looks as though I was a bit off.

Gestures from last evening

Finally, back to drawing.  It has been disconcerting to have so many breaks between sessions and it has left me fairly unsatisfied with most of the work I've been producing.  I really need to have some flow going to feel that I can go forward.  Alas, it's out of my control so I take what I can get.

Congratulations, Lady A

An outstanding (and favorite of mine) former model for us has just had her first child.  Congratulations, Lady A.  Enjoy the joys of parenthood.

A bit of a curve

I like relaxed poses and this one was at the end of the session to just fill up some time. 

No model, no drawing session, so...

I'll use up a few of the "OK" drawings from so far this year and then hit old stuff.  I'm getting a bit worn out by having to cancel our life drawing sessions for whatever the reason of the week is.  Sorry, just frustrated.  Here's something from the last session.

I think I added some weight to the figure while drawing this, just to give it some interest.

Quick head study

Turns out this was my favorite sketch of the evening.  Organic and loose.  Fun to do.

Sketchy noggin

I had some problems with this.  I kept having to thin up the torso during the pose.  Not sure why I had her so wide but as the drawing was coming together I saw that I had given Lady J a body builders back.  I think I was able to pull it back by the time the clock ran out, though.

Coy

Just a bit of line and modeling in this.  I like when the drapery is left linear and the figure is rendered more fully, it draws the attention to the form of the model rather nicely.  Granted, this is really just a start but I like the juxtaposition.

Scrunched

 A pretzel pose but I really liked how her nose was scrunched on her knee.  This was pretty fun to draw.

Most recent gestures

Well, they're gestures.  Not much else to say.

Finally hitting a bit of stride...

... at the end of the night.  Figures.  Not great but I felt more in control with this one so all was not lost.
