Gestures of Sara

 A few gestures from last night's session with Sara.  We also welcomed a new face to the group.

Long pose

45 minutes and I still can't get to the face.  Or the hand.  Or finish the shading.  So frustrating.  Still, I like this so far.  It's on my easel awaiting a finish.

Another decent start with no end in sight

 I'm really beginning to hate these short sketches, I never seem to get as far along as I want.

 Good thing that's part of the job description.

Got hung up on the wrong aspects of the drawing

 Sorry for the poor lighting.  Not sure what happened but it sure didn't shoot very well.  As to the drawing I like the right hand but that left hand...whew... a lot of problems.

Gestures of Cody part 3

 

Small group.  Cody such a great model that I wish more artists would take advantage of the opportunity to draw her (and the other models who graciously give of their time). 

You can (almost) never go wrong with shadows

 Shadows just define the figure in a way that the best linework can't.  Embrace those wonderful spaces where light fears to tread.  You'll never be afraid of the dark again.

Unfinished opportunity

 Started on her face and head a little too late.  Was intrigued with the way her mouth was slightly open and the opportunity to create depth in what was mostly a profile.  I wish I had started with her head and finished it.

Gestures of Cody

 

Cody does a great job for us.  It's a pleasure to get to work with her, or any model, for multiple sessions in a row.  Getting a feel for the figure and it's particular nuances really helps with creating better drawings.

My favorite (which ain't sayin' much) of the evening

 I was trying to have fun with this and it just kept kickin' my butt!  Still, it's one that I don't hate, so there's that.  Some great shapes and shadows that I really wanted to capture but... enough carping.  There's always something to be learned and I will have a better outlook the next session.

I don't hate this...

 This feel a bit better.  If I'm not going to handle things well, I may as well go heavy.

Losing focus

 I was seduced by the scapula and lost all track of actually drawing the figure.  Like I said, it was a rough night and, for me, a lost opportunity to get some good drawings in.  Perhaps I'll learn from this fiasco...

It was a rough day...

 ...that turned into a rough night of drawing.  When my mind is distracted I have no chance at making a decent drawing.

Well, we met...

 ... I didn't exactly conquer.  Still, it was good to be at it again.  Here are the gestures of Cody.

Head study of The Sculptor

 Jeff is always a good model to work from.  I'm sure over the years I've exaggerated his features but that is a plus when working with someone for (yikes) 20+ years!

Tayla tilts

 From just before the Covid shutdown. 

Still mining the vaults

 I really like this pose, it would make a nice painting.  Pensive and languid.

Cast shadows

 Some very fun forms created by the shadows.  I would really enjoy doing more like this.  I'll have to make a note of it...
