Alright, let's get this one out of the way
Thank goodness people have better things to do than check this blog out on a Saturday. I don't know what was going through my head when I did this (okay, I do know. It was a couple of Angry Hank's Street Fight Red microbrews... what a kick that beer has). It really doesn't matter because there is no excuse for a drawing as poorly executed as this one. I'm pretty sure I did better as the night progressed. Shameful.

The return of Sara
Gestures, gestures and more gestures.
And speaking of gestures, here's a gesture of good wishes for mon ami, Russ. Happy Birthday, oh wizened one.

Kind of a forced lost edge
The lost edge on the forehead of the model seemed like a good idea at the time I was drawing this. Now it doesn't look so natural. Other than that, I'm happy enough with this effort.

Another head study
But this one I really like. The forearm turned out pretty well and the rendering of the head really worked out for me in this sketch. Yep, pretty happy with this one.

A little more finished
Look what an extra five minutes can do. I actually got an eye into this one. Again, got caught up in the face and the relations of the shapes.

Back to basics
I got caught up on the model's chin and how it related to the mouth barrel. It was almost like looking at an anatomical sculpt from school. The way the shapes all fit together was fascinating to me and hence the five minutes went by too quickly for me to finish the face. C'est la vie.

Abstract figurative
This was a fun one for me. I was a bit punchy from the previous 36 hours of Deadwood fun and frivolity, so it took a bit for me to get into form. Still, this one reminded me of how many options there are when drawing.

And the ever present 2nd gesture page
Yeay, yeah, I know I'm milking it. If this town could handle two nights of life drawing there would be a lot more to show. I kinda like tomorrow's drawing though...

The gestures from last night, part one
I'm going to keep a few of the drawings from last week and some from this week in my back pocket since we won't be drawing the 12th of May. That way I won't have to scramble for images. So here are the one minute gestures from last night, at least the first page of them.

Lost Edges
I like how the torso gives way to the paper and the cast shadows form the upper arm. I was being quite conscious of the design of this sketch and consequently am very happy with the outcome.

Tough pose
From my angle this was a difficult pose to make interesting. I concentrated on the head, specifically the lower face and neck. That area seemed the most interesting for me. Just an okay sketch.

Hmmm
The Thinker, I think. Not my favorite of the night but I got caught up in the way the nose overlapped the hand and the cross planes that were involved. I think I got so into it that I disregarded proportions (a common problem with me when it comes to the nose).

Getting back into the groove
Just getting into the flow again with some five minute drawings. I was pretty happy with the line quality in these. We'll see how the rest progress.

Back to work
Wow, it's been a long time in between posts. I hope I'm not too rusty... Here is the first page of gestures. It felt good to be drawing from life again. Always get antsy when I don't get to draw the subject that really makes me happy. I do a bit at work but it's all stuff meant for the masses, nothing I can really just put myself completely into.

Cripes
I screwed up the dates for our drawing sessions and find that we will be without drawing for a total of three weeks. No drawing last Thursday, no drawing this Thursday so I probably won't be posting for a bit. Unless I create something in the meantime it looks like I'll be seeing y'all April 15th. Thanks for checking in.
