Nice little profile.  Sorry, still a bit tired from the weekend so I got little to say.

Courage gives us some gesture poses

Some fun head studies from the gesture session.  Courage is a terrific model.

The Funky Chair

We have this strange little U shaped chair that is a poor man's rocker, I guess.  We use is every so often to get a different perspective on the model.  This is last weeks result.

Shoulda rendered her head

Simple back study but mostly concentrating on her left arm.  I got caught up in the region around her elbow.  Funny the things that catch your eye and one gets fascinated by.

Bit of a head study

Spent a lot of time making sure the nose was right.  Her head moved throughout the pose so I kept having to re-position my POV to get her left eye back into the right spot.

The familiar pose

You'd think I could get this pose right after all of this time.  The first time she did it resulted in the best drawing I've done of it.  Sheesh.

Sprawl

A complicated pose that could have benefited from more time.  I spent a lot of the drawing time trying to get the left arm and lat proportionate.  Lady J is so thin that the muscles and bone structure are absolutely fascinating to play with.

Head Study #2

Well, actually study #2, I'm just posting it first.  Lady J is a blast to draw and I have a great deal of fun sketching her face.  I'll post the other study tomorrow or Thursday.

Scapula study

I got caught up in her right shoulder, especially the shadows.  Very graphic but fun.

Lady J returned after a few months away.  She turned in her usual solid and challenging set of poses.

A more fully realized sketch, yet the stuff left undone is not very interesting.  Should have made better choices with this one.

About the most linear drawing I've done.  Hmmm, not sure if I'm happy with this one or not.

Loss

Let me take a moment and say a little something about loss.  Yesterday, Mother's Day, we lost our 11 year old Scottish Terrier, McDuff.  He was a constant companion to my wife and I and his unexpected death made me think of how we should (cliche as it may be) not take any one, or day, for granted.  Enjoy and make as much of each moment we have while we are in that moment.  This comes home harder to me than I think it would have normally since about three hours after finding my dog in the morning I received a phone call letting me know that my Aunt Janice had passed from cancer.  Although I had been in contact with her I was unaware of her illness.  She was the last link to my father, a man I never knew as he died before I was 4 years old.  The sense of loss is deep and I regret not having asked more questions, learned more about my aunt although I felt I knew her fairly well.  Still, it makes me realize that once someone is gone there is nothing I can do to learn more, feel more, from that person.  I hope I can learn from this and make the most of the time I have left with the people I care most about.

The gestures of Miss Courage.  It was a lot of fun to have her back in the studio again.  Looking forward to drawing her some more this summer.

Pensive

The pose was very compact so I decided to focus on her face.  I like the look of her eyes in this one.  I also had fun drawing her mouth.  Lady B is always a great model to draw.

Cast shadow

A quick sketch with some nice cast shadows making for an interesting little drawing.
