Long pose...

 ...best pose.  I had fun with this.  It must have been a bit of an uncomfortable pose as Lady S moved a few times.  This threw off some of the proportions and angles as the pose progressed.  Still, fairly happy with this one.

A bit better

 More with the sanguine pencil.  This one was coming together much better.  Still, needs a lot of work to make this a viable finished piece.

Not real happy with how this worked out but I like where the face was going.  This needs a lot of work to pull it together.

The Mummy... a sketch

Was watching an awful TV movie from 1977 "Curse of the Black Widow" with my lovely  wife and decided to do a little study of a classic movie monster.  However, I don't recommend working in semi darkness with a small image on your smartphone while trying to keep up with a storyline.  Well, at least I'm not ashamed of this effort.

A couple new sketches

A group spearheaded by my pal Russ Walks are posting some hero sketches from the Covid 19 crisis.  I chose Capt. Brett Crozier of the United States Navy.  His stand for his sailors and the manner in which he has stood up in the face of political posturing is inspiring.  Truly a "True Blue" leader and one that we need more of these days.

It's that time of year again...

I'm in the middle of my annual blitzkrieg of Santa drawings.  This time they will be displayed and on sale at The Moss Mansion starting sometime in early November.  This one is a little 4x4 pencil sketch on toned paper with conté accents and white pastel.

On the Drawing Board

This is a prep sketch for another drawing. Graphite is not my preferred medium but since this will be redrawn in charcoal I just wanted to get a feel as this image will be one of three for an upcoming show.  Just need it to be right.

Comp study for upcoming painting

I need to get three pieces done and this is (for the moment) the first of them.  Old reference but I'm gonna try a different (for me) approach.  Hope to have fun with this.

From my trip

When you have time on your hands in the airport it creates an opportunity to sketch ones fellow travelers.  This is what I came up with.  Only the guy in the upper right corner wasn't aware I was trying to draw him.  The others kept looking up which is really annoying.

Exit the Sculptor

The worms eye view really is apparent here, with the over sized hand and the smaller head.  It was an interesting exercise.

Trying something different

I decided to just use my sketchbook last night and draw with pencil and pens.  Not sure how successful I was but it's kinda of freeing.  Here are the gestures.

Rare pencil drawing

Must've been in my Andrew Wyeth mood when I did this since I don't often use pencil. Especially on newsprint. I like the work, it just is hard to see.

Up early...
