So many shapes

This drawing really was coming together and, truth to tell, I'm happy with it as is.  But another five minutes and I would've had her face and hair knocked in for a more complete sketch.  I had so much fun with all of these and this one as well as the one I'll post tomorrow got me excited for drawing again.  Truly excited.  And with my glasses coming soon I may be even more jacked up to create art again.

That twist

Really loved this pose.  Again, the various shapes creating such fabulous interactions of mass.  The evidence of gravity is prevalent from the shoulders through the legs.  So much fun to draw.

Just a study

Wasn't intrigued by the pose so I chose to just focus on a bit of the figure.  I thoroughly enjoyed sketching this drawing as I enjoyed the entire evening.

Cally's back and gesturing away

I had a pretty good night.  I hope everyone will agree as the posts come in over the coming week.

Exit the Sculptor

The worms eye view really is apparent here, with the over sized hand and the smaller head.  It was an interesting exercise.

It's a hand.  Not much more to say 'bout this one.

Twist and hold

Lot's of mass and a bit too much heavy line work on the back and not enough solid work on the right shoulder and arm.

Little pen study

More of the sketchbook session.  I had a bit of a wormseye view which is always interesting.  I used a fine tip Sharpie marker for this particular drawing.  As immediate as I feel 10 minute charcoal drawings are using a pen in a sketchbook really shows what immediate is regarding a drawing.

Just finished

This is a reworking of an older piece.  Pretty happy with how this has finally come together.  I had a lot of fun with the buckskin dress and all of the ragged edges.  This will end up in my gallery among some new pieces from Pacific Green.  We're very excited to be debuting this line at our store and I'm glad I was able to finish this painting in time to accompany the grand unveiling.

Trying something different

I decided to just use my sketchbook last night and draw with pencil and pens.  Not sure how successful I was but it's kinda of freeing.  Here are the gestures.

Exhausted

At least it looks that way.  My favorite rendering of the night.  I really like the foreshortening and all of the shapes in this one.  There is some serious weight revealed through the shoulder and breasts all the way through her legs.

Study of Cally's head

It is always a challenge to do a competent head study and nail a likeness when tiny movements over the course of the session take their toll.  Still like how it turned out.

Drapery and knees

It's funny the things that catch ones eye.  I always seem to get sidetracked by that great grouping of mass, the knee.  It's a lot of fun to draw and add some drapery around it and there are a lot of interesting shapes to get lost in.

Takes a bit of time

Getting back into the flow of things, donchaknow.

Back to work

The gestures from our most recent drawing session.  Cally was great and we had a good turnout.  It was good to draw from the model again.

A partial of Ashley

This was starting to come together.  I liked the pose and the way her body folded into itself a bit.  I hope we can get her back to model again.

Still using the unpublished sketches

This isn't a terrible sketch, it just doesn't have any sparkle to it.  I think it would have benefited from having her face finished or by not including her head at all.  It looked like it had potential but...
