Cowboy Jeff

A real old sketch of Jeff from a session that I can't remember the purpose of.  A painting I suppose.  Here's hoping everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family and friends.

Can't tell you how many times I've drawn this image.  A lot, that's for sure.

Rough day

Looks like Jeff finally had it and just passed out.  Seriously, it's a great pose that presents a lot of challenges and I think it came out pretty well.

Shadows

I really like the heavy handed technique along with the deep shadows.

Coulda...

Shoulda.  Just didn't do this pose justice.  Not sure what I was thinking by abandoning the technique of a shorter pose just because I have more time.  Hmph.

Gestures of the Sculptor

We did a few longer drawings with Jeff last week.  These are the quick gestures.

First drawing...

turned out to be my favorite of the night.  The movement and the treatment seem to work for me in this sketch.

Sculptor in repose

What can I say?  He's relaxed.

Forearm and torso

Coupla head studies

The sketch at the bottom of this image just did not work.  Luckily, the next one did.  Lots of fun shapes and lines in Jeff's face.

Let's skip the gestures...

although I liked the gestures.  Here is one of the later images, just a study of the forearm.

Exit the Sculptor

The worms eye view really is apparent here, with the over sized hand and the smaller head.  It was an interesting exercise.

Twist and hold

Lot's of mass and a bit too much heavy line work on the back and not enough solid work on the right shoulder and arm.

Always have fun drawing the sculptor's head. Lots of shapes and angles to latch onto and exploit for my own artistic gains.

Lean & Linear

Jeff's lean physique makes for a natural when it comes linear drawing.

This one just kind of came together for me. I was happy with it... still am.

Gestures of Jeff

An okay drawing session last night. I think there is only one sketch that I am happy with. I'll post that next week.

Head Study

Heavy handed but, as I've said before, it all depends on the pose. I guess focusing on such a small area gave me a bit more time to "noodle" this drawing.

Best of the night

This is more like it. I love studies that aren't complete figures. Focusing on a section of the figure and delving into it is both my favorite way of composing a drawing and also my favorite types of drawings created by others.
